Flower Diary
This is a little diary of flowers! Or really, the flowers I’ve seen in Brunei so far. Most of them you could see decorating the city area while others you’d find them at any local horticulture centres. Please help me identify or share your knowledge on these flowers, especially whether they are local or exotic plants! =D
This page is constantly being updated.
Please note: I usually don’t have a camera with me so the photos below are taken from somewhere (to know where, do click on the picture itself).
If you happen to live in Brunei Darussalam and have pictures of flowers that you’ve taken while jogging and whatnot, please feel free to send it to me. I don’t mind adding photo credits and all that.
Dang, I need a camera.
N.B: If you happen to come by certain plants of interests and if they are not native to our country, please do not start growing them in mass until you’ve checked how invasive they are. Do not grow exotic invasive species.
The Flora
Wishbone Flower
Torenia fournieri
{local}
About: You’ll most probably be able to see this grown in your neighbour’s garden! It is easy to grow, they can grow in poor soils. I’m growing this in my little garden patch and you’d find them in two colours; one in dark purple while the other in pinkish purple. They don’t grow very tall.
Brazilian Snapdragon
Otacanthus caeruleus
{local}
About: This is a shrub, with no stamen, style, fruit or seed. It has very strong mint odour and it propagates by cutting. Its average height is around 124cm and it grows very well in our climate. Very beautiful, definitely good for home landscaping.
