174. Hitherto.

I know I have left this blog web a little too quiet the past few days. I have a good, well, several reasons: One, I have three presentations this coming week (which means I took last week to finish them all); two, I have two essays due this coming week as well (which means I took the last last week for research and to type up what I have learnt and allthatcrap); three, I went for a make-up course! haha. I know; four, I had practical last two weeks to study antplants; five, I studied birds! *grins*

Okay, so last last week I attended this make-up course. I thought it would be fun and it was sorta cheap during promotion. The point was to be updated with the latest facial stuffs out there and to know the best make-up look for me. Recalling now, I’m not sure whether I looked alright. I’ve forgotten how I looked and nope, I didn’t manage to get a photo of myself. Partly because I didn’t want to and partly because I was heading back towards school for MATH TEST! haha. It was funny how everyone thought how my friends and I had purposely made ourselves look “good” just for the test. It was hilariously silly.

Anyway, an interesting practical I had last week was on the myrmecophytes. The basic idea was for us to learn ant-plant symbiosis. It was an exciting practical, apart from us getting bitten by ants, it was sort of an awe to see how the ants could the plant and how the plant supply the ants with food and shelter. For these two species which agreed to protect each other, this mutual relationship, it’s very…well, sort of touching. I could hardly see this sort of relationship amngst humans. Sad really.

Apart from working on myrmecophytes, the biology students (myself included) went around campus area yesterday, understanding the heath forest to which the campus is sitting on. It’s sad to know how degraded it is, for the plant species found in there are extraordinary. Pitcher plants is just one example. Nepenthenes group is one of the most fascinating plants I have come across so easily and yet little attention was given into protecting them from being wiped out by foreign plants (like Acacia spp.).

Ah well.

The interesting thing about today was not only the fact I had to get up so blimey early in the morning but also the many numbers of bird species identified. What I have identified along with the help of my senior friends:

~Magpie robin
~Yellow wagtail
~Grey wagtail
~Peaceful dove
~Eurasian tree sparrow
~Yellow vented bulbul
~White-breasted water hen
~Starling
~White-collared kingfisher
~Chestnut munia
~Olive-backed sunbird

Amazing lot I must say. =D

Ah, on a positive note too. The dutch iris I have planted, they are now growing healthily (least most of them are) and I can’t wait for them to show some signs of flower bloom during flower season~ hehe.

For now, I need to head to bed.
