Yup! I am helping out in this conference again; the…

BORNEO GLOBAL ISSUES CONFERENCE VII

I might need to skip one lecture tomorrow morning though~

I am excited!!

They were surprised. They know Brunei Darussalam is a rich country but little did they expect this. We were standing at one of the corners of the exhibition booths.  Out of ten that walked past us, 8 of them carried false branded goods.  How do they proceed with their business here? Oh they worry.

This is a serious issue. Think about this, when a country is rich – and I do mean rich in terms of $$$- people would assume quality would be a subject of concern. Why would you spend loads of money on cheap products? If you carry a Gucci, people can start judging you. However, if you carry a FAKE Gucci, oh dang, the judgments people make about you – bet on it that they are negative.

There are many goods out there, yeah? There are so many factories around the world creating bags, shoes and whatnot. Why spend money and indirectly support the factory outlets to produce (more) FAKE branded products? Really, when you are out window shopping, it wasn’t the brand that caught your eye, was it? It was really the DESIGN of the bag that caught your eye, yes? Surely that is the FIRST thing that catches your attention. So it wasn’t the brand, it was the design! But because that nice designed bag has a Gucci or Prada (not genuine) stitched or sticker-ed on it, instead of pleasing yourself and other people on your new bought – you received negative comments  (though usually not commented infront of you).

My views. Yes they are.

But it’s okay, you say. Everyone is carrying it. Brand or Fake brand – it’s alright. No one can out rule the majority.

Well, you are right. In a way. But the impression that others receive of us – the majority- is.. well, what else do I need to say? It’s not a good image we are portraying, that’s for sure!

We have the qualities! With globalization, there is no excuse that we cannot find a factory outlet that can produce the designs we like! The key is really..

NO BRAND IS GOOD BRAND.

It hurts. To know that people who made Prada and Givenchy spend their lives trying to create good products, designing, making, etc. Shouldn’t they get credit for their work? Maybe they made it to the top easily with lots of cash or because their family background was financially stable, but they still should receive credits for their originality. Us, buying cheap fake branded products only show how low we are.

Because of the essence of originality, it provides the people of the country the opportunity to expand their creativity. Only we know what design we want, so we tell the makers how we want it. We design our own. It’s about time we be the change!

Think about all the bags being produced cheaply, carries a name with no quality. Imagine that name is yours. Imagine it’s your creation.

“But it’s not easy. ” Of course it’s not! Pfft. That’s the bloody challenge!

I stood there with them. Their comments left me speechless. I sighed. If Only…

Valentine Gift

The morning will come
In the press of every kiss
With your head upon my chest
Where I will annoy you
With every waking breath
Until you decide to wake up

I’ve earned through hope and faith
On the curves around your face
That I’m the one you’ll hold forever
If morning never comes for either one of us
Then this I pray to you wherever

I’ll do anything for you
This story is for you
(‘Cause I’d do anything you want me to for you)
I’ll do anything for you
Kill anyone for you~
(Coheed and Cambria)

Now, how do you like my new layout? I don’t know why it is called Genesis and I don’t know why I’d like it with those silouhettes. I think I need to download more brushes. I am getting tired with the ones I have. Can you think of a theme I could use for my next layout? *grins*

Putting that aside, let me write down what I have done so far:

On a beautiful Friday the 13th, I woke up early – all excited for the field trip I mentioned on my latest previous post – but unfortunately, was greeted by high tide, thus making our field work not possible. The fascinating creatures we were told to look at could not be seen. Eventually, we made our trip back to campus (with our mood so down). Sigh~

With that practical being unsuccessful, we have another to carry out today -only not quite the same subject. Today, we had to go around “visiting” Pison Argentatum. They are mud wasps and we were to study its larva(e) and, to find out whether their home was invaded by other creatures. We are currently still working on them. It is fascinating these creatures! The mother wasps would hunt and collect as much spiders as needed to “feed” the young BEFORE laying her eggs. And, she lays only ONE egg per nest. So really, she stuffs the spiders into one nest, lay just one egg and then covers the nest with mud. When the larva grows, it will undergo development by feeding on the paralysed (yes, paralysed and not killed so spiders die slowly -being fresh food for young wasp) spiders. Once development stage is reached, it will work itself out of its case. Amazing, ey? I find it really fascinating!!An you know, beside just spiders – we have found other species that hunts for caterpillars instead! haha.

Alright, enough of that. That took at least 5 hours of my day! Right after practical though, the whole bunch of us along with Met worked ourselves up to Ms.BB’s room and successfully surprised her with a cake!!! haha. ( I wonder whether you saw it coming..akeke)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BB!!!!

As soon as I filled my tummy with chocolate mousse cake, off I went for Math tutorials. Sigh~ Nopes, still no progress on Integration. It is uberly annoying! Test is next week and I shit am not prepared. EFF IT. -_- *pouts*

Now, shall I do a little math and then shower for Valentine Dinner? Or shall I do nothing and rest for Valentine Dinner? *grins*

So where are you going tonight?

If I have a book, to show you a list of words that describe my days so far, the word “tiredness” exhaust the pages. Why am I so tired?…I am not really sure.I guess it’s from thinking. Thinking about all the things I want to and have to do – only most of the time, ending up doing half or a little less than I planned. It’s frustrating. But I guess it’s better than nothing.

Earlier today, I dropped by the main hall just before Math to see and hopefully find out more about the Generation Next Programme – really looking forward to getting perhaps a course outline. Alas~ outline of courses are not ready. I shall have to wait till August. Shall I change course, now? after first semester? If I were, then I would have wasted one year. One year. That’s a lot of days. A lot of time. A lot of cash. Sigh~

Stated clearly now on my school dairy, on today’s date is a “Study Integration or die” note. I…well, haven’t done Integration. Instead, I spent two-ish hours on this:

For Siew
For Siew

It’s for my sis’ web blog. I have created this layout with a fine spectrum of purple and black. What do you think? Good? Hmms… I’d say, way better than Integration though. ;P haha

Anyway, I shall be getting to bed now. I have field work to do tomorrow. I need to be up by 5am! tata~

P.S:  I’ve cut my hair. =)

You’ll be my Valentine~

It’s hard to believe that cloning of humans is possible -once, fraudulent claims of generating custom-made stem cells were made and thus, the highlight of such topic, perhaps shouldn’t be confirmed rightaway. What has been done:

…scientists have transferred DNA from an adult human cell into a human egg, and made the egg to “reprogram” the donor DNA back to its embryonic state, producing a pattern of gene activation like that in normal IVF embryos–and therefore, it seems, the pattern necessary to create an embryo….” (from Lab Notes, 2009)

It is unholy, to make such an attempt. Scientifically speaking, such attempt can be done. Throw a hypothesis, do some tests and draw up some conclusions (whatever that conclusion might be). Understanding that evolution did not occur through a series of tests and nature alone has taken care of who lives and what doesn’t through natural selection, it is not right for us to choose traits and create multiple of them. Logically, it will disrupt the chain nature has been working on, and may have an effect on the primary gene pool.

It’s a preposterous action. Yes, you might say “but they have done it to a sheep, Dolly”. Ian Wilmut, who led the team to clone Dolly the sheep said that:

“…an important difference in gene expression from transferred human nuclei depending upon whether they were transferred into a human oocyte or a non-human oocyte.” (from Lab Notes,2009)

What do you think, personally? Would human cloning work?

Imagine looking at yourself and that yourself does not exist just in a mirror.

Sharon Begley concluded his article by saying that a “misplaced hope” has been placed if nature allows such to happen.

And if Lanza and his team are right, the idea that nature erects insurmountable barriers to human cloning will seem like a misplaced hope.” (from Lab Notes, 2009)
