54.The Legislative Council.

At exactly 9.30am, we left for the Parliament Building – blue dome shaped building, the Legislative Council.

Year 3 students little school trip today, and I tagged along with a few colleagues. When I arrived, I could not help but to be in awe! The interior was magnificent! Very classy and once you stepped in, it sort of gives you the feeling like as if you are suddenly the ambassador of some country. haha.

Every single room you step into, every single hallways; the walls, the carpet, the pillars, almost everything is built and made with certain/specific designs that symbolizes M.I.B… or at least Brunei. Look at your little coins. See those markings on the 5c to 50c coins? You could actually find those symbols engraved on the walls on the Chamber (the place where the big conference is held). As a matter of fact, just standing outside the building – at the main entrance, there are already many markings and meanings to every built structure, like say the pillars. The front most – there are 5 and just before the entrance, there are 9. This represents 1959- the year when the first constitution was being signed. Once you enter the building, there are more pillars. At one section, you could count 8 and then 4 – which represents 1984- they year Brunei gained its independence. Haha, that’s not about it… there are more. The dome shaped roof to which you could see little window like structure; there are exactly 29 of them, which means Brunei is currently ruled by the 29th sultan. Amazing, yes?

But just before our little tour around the building, we were brought into this theater like hall. We watched a short clip on Brunei’s history and the how the building was made. It was all together informative and interesting to watch. There was one part where I got a bit teary. haha.

Interesting morning. A little trip I did not expect to go along.
